Mark 7:24-37

How a Syrophoenician Woman’s faith overcomes obstacles

  • His first responsibility, His “priority list” so to speak, was the Jews. This woman was a Gentile, and so what Jesus was saying was that He must first feed the Jews with spiritual food.
  • She is acknowledging Jesus’ priority, and at the same time, she is acknowledging Jesus’ authority.
  • Jesus said she had Great Faith.

The obstacles to her faith were great – Mark 7:24-27

  1. The obstacle of race – Mark 7:26
  2. The obstacle of religion – Mark 7:26-27
  3. The obstacle of rejection – Mark 7:27

The object of her faith was greater – Mark 7:28-30, Matthew 15:28

  3. Great Faith throws itself at the feet of Jesus – Mark 7:25, Mark 7:32
  4. Great Faith is persistent – Mark 7:28
  5. Great Faith repeats the Word of God – Mark 7:28
  6. Great Faith responds with submission – Mark 7:28
  7. Great Faith is rewarded – Mark 7:30, Mark 7:35
