1. ZECHARIAH IS SILENCED, BUT MARY SINGS.
• Zechariah was a religious leader, a priest — if anyone were going to believe God, and then speak prophetic words about God, it seems like it should be him.
• The world was going to be turned on its head by this coming Messiah in ways that no one expected.
• God does things differently!
2. MARY’S SONG IS A LOVE SONG — BUT NOT IN THE WAYS WE EXPECT.
• Mary responds to God by rejoicing in God, which is an act of love.
• She was declaring the powerful and faithful love of God.
• Words we would expect to come from a place of power or privilege came instead from a humble young woman.
• Mary’s song reveals that Gods Love, the Messiah, was coming not through power, war, or money – but through humility and an ordinary person.
Mary responded to the powerful love of God with love and praise. She did not just receive God’s love but responded to it. In her response, she teaches us to praise God for:
1. Doing great things for us (Luke 1:46-49)
2. Giving mercy to those who fear Him (Luke 1:50-53)
3. Keeping His promises (Luke 1:54-55)
